Every element of nature on our planet offers something to feed our souls. Each shows us something different about who we are and what we need to remember. The calm soothing quiet of a cedar bush in winter, snowflakes gently falling, boughs weighted in white, or a clear still fresh water lake in summer, crystal clear skies, birds playing on wings, brings us back to a state of quiet reflection. A place that allows us to be quiet and hear our inner wisdom. To remember how to be still. Meditation can mimic this phenomenon and bring us back into this place of stillness. We also need to be reminded of our power. That is why the size of the Alps or the Rocky Mountains captivate us. Why the any ocean grabs us and pulls us willingly into its pounding surf. Why we revel in a thunderstorm, marveling at the lightning streaks, feeling the same surge deep within. Our power is always there, inside us. We’re not a bowl full of milk and cereal that gets eaten and then the bowl is empty. Our power is always there, never gets used up, but we forget. We get distracted by too many voices and words and items and to-do lists around us. We forget ourselves. Which is why, when we stand in front of an ocean we want to linger as we begin to remember who we are; we want to stand in the mountain’s shadow just a little longer as we resonate with its power; we embrace the storm outside because we feel the thunder under our ribs. So how can we remember our power when these symbols in nature are not within reach. One is to stand outside of the distraction and chaos more often and remember who we are. Create your dream, don’t get lost in it. Another is to move our bodies in ways that feel powerful, strong, alive. Engaging in some sort of activity that pushes us into our body and away from the relentless mind of distractive thoughts. Doing some strong yoga poses with wave sounds beside us can invigorate our power too. Don’t let your circumstances allow you to forget your power and who you really are. Create your dream!! You are a balance of peace and power. Reclaim yourself each day. And any chance you get to stand by mountains, walk a winter trail, swim in fresh water lakes, dive into ocean’s waves or surrender to storms….take it!!!
