Stranger in the Woods, Michael Finkel
Stranger In The Woods by Michael Finkel is extraordinary. I started reading it on a Saturday evening and finished it Sunday morning. Not a book to put down. Why extraordinary? Well, the story of the hermit is mind boggling in and of itself. But not everyone could have told it with such dignity, suspense and magic. Finkel’s language is engaging, you want to read and reread passages just because of the cadence, the word choice, the feeling, the image it evokes. Magic. His research adds yet another element, answering questions that you have as a reader. And yet, there are times when you forget you are reading non-fiction. The blend of storytelling and clear fact is entrancing. You are on a journey, plain and simple. On my top shelf, I will pull it down and reread often.
